The Joseph Dube and Philomene Nadeau enigma
Écrit par : admin
It seldom happens that the connection of a recent Dubé member to his Mathurin ancestor cannot be solved by means of the repertory of our publication on the descendants of Mathurin Dubé and Marie Campion. It is however what occurred recently during the adhesion of Gilbert Dubé of Boca Raton, Florida.
By using the abundant data on his card of inscription and the file of the cases compiled during the preparation of the repertory, it was possible to go up his line to several generations. However, the couple Joseph Dubé and Philomène Nadeau who were together in the 1850s remains an enigma. Their marriage certificate was not found in the parochial registers in Canada, nor in those of the areas bordering the Saint John River in Maine, as researched by the genealogists. Their presence is noted in the Van Buren, Eagle Lake and Fort Kent Maine region. According to Linda Coté -Dubé, Joseph died in Eagle Lake in 1906.
The absence of documents of their marriage prevents us from identifying the father of Joseph and, consequently, from continuing to follow its ascent to Mathurin. Without additional information or other circumstantial indices, as discovered in several cases, this case seems particularly difficult to resolve. The lack of information on his spouse, Philomène Nadeau creates an even more complex situation.
It seems logical to continue to consider the Dubé families firstly who belonged to the pioneers of New Brunswick like potential parents of Joseph and Philomène.
