INTEREST IN THE MATTER

From its inception, our Association has given paramount importance to genealogical compilations and research concerning all matters linked to our family name. The letters patent of our Association clearly state our objective to further spread genealogical information. Through the registration form filled by our members, we quickly gathered unknown information on our members’ immediate or extended family. Members assigned to our databank always stand ready to answer requests leading to the establishment of the caller’s descendancy chart. At events such as the New France Festival in Quebec City, hundreds of people who visited our stands obtained information free of charge and, in some cases, even received a document tracing their direct ancestry up to Mathurin and Marie. In return, our members obtained new genealogical data and thereby filled gaps in the various databanks used in preparing ADA’s publications.

In its first year, our Association decided to create its own databank. In December 1996, Henri-Paul Dubé from Trois-Rivières was designated as the first manager of this important tool. He was firmly supported by a number of founding members, such as Julien Dubé of Quebec City and Marie-Paule Dubé of Saint-Calixte. Over the years, this databank has grown, thanks to all of our members, and Julien used his own expertise in data processing and genealogy to create our Association’s first directory entitled Dictionnaire des Familles Dubé, which was published in conjunction with the Dubés’ Annual Meeting and Celebrations in 2000. This genealogical research tool was widely distributed amongst our members. The demand for this book and its usefulness in conveying our message at genealogical stands convinced ADA’s Board of Directors to invest heavily in its improvement and completeness. From 2004 to 2006, a committee worked very hard to realize this goal. The recent publication of the book entitled Les Descendants de Mathurin Dubé et Marie Campion crowned this achievement. Even though our team invested considerable resources in this project, reality constantly reminds us that no genealogical research or publications may ever be final. Indeed, validation efforts regularly reveal gaps and flaws.
